MOMC Virtual 5K
To show support for military children everywhere, we hosted our second annual 5K! Registrants received a t-shirt, medal, and race bib and completed a 5K however they liked! We had families, walk, run, and bike the 5K locally and in multiple different states! Everyone who completed the 5K received a limited edition Month of the Military Child sticker!
A big thank you to the Chicago Bulls for hosting two virtual experiences during their Charity Game Night! Two of our Pride Members participated in a special pre- game show and our Kids Rank staff was able to attend the game as virtual fans! We are excited to continue partnering with the Bulls during the next year!
Bulls Virtual Game Experience
In the past, Kids Rank and USO have partnered for an in person amazing family race. This year, thanks to Snack Crate, our families were able to enjoy snacks from the UK and participate in activities virtually! We learned about British English, Big Ben, and the royal family and everyone attended a "Royal Ball!"
USO Amazing Family Adventure
In conjunction with our virtual 5K, some of our partner schools hosted a Move a Mile event. Students dressed in purple, the color of the military child, and walked or ran a mile on school property.
Thank you to all of our participating schools who showed support for military kids in your student body!
Move a Mile
Inspired by an art therapy technique with veterans, Kids Rank partnered with the National Veterans Art Museum to create the We Are Resilience: Masks of Hope exhibit. In early 2020, Pride Members created masks to express their experience as a military child. Though COVID-19 changed our original plans we are excited to share we have created a catalog of the exhibit and families have been able to schedule private visits to see the exhibit in person! Thank you to Allstate for making the catalog possible
We Are Resilience: Masks of Hope
In late October, Brushwood Center and the Shedd Aquarium took some of our families out for a kayaking adventure on the Chicago River! Participants braved the cold to learn about efforts to improve the health of the Chicago River and keep our waterways clean!
Kayak for Conservation
Military children will often move outside the normal school year calendar. To help these children feel valued and recognized, we are collecting items to be given out when a family moves to or from the community
These Welcome and Farewell Kits will be shared with schools and partners to make sure that military children entering and leaving our communities feel a sense of belonging.
To support this effort, you can purchase items from our Amazon wish list. This list contains small items that will be sent to our office and put into the kits.!
